Castro school student dies after fall during classroom game

A 12-year-old student, Luigi Gabriel da Cruz Sales, has died following an accident during a game with classmates at Colégio Estadual Professor Basílio Chrum in Castro, Paraná. The incident occurred on September 25, when the boy was reportedly lifted by his arms by other students and fell forward onto the ground.

Luigi remained hospitalized for over a week before passing away on Saturday, October 4. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances, currently treating the case as an accident with no immediate evidence of intent to cause harm. Investigators are specifically looking into a reported delay in medical assistance. While SAMU was reportedly called, officials allegedly declined to provide immediate service after determining the situation was not grave. The student was not sent to an Urgent Care Unit until approximately two hours and 45 minutes after the fall.

The investigation will also examine whether there was negligence or omission by the school or health services. Preliminary informal reports suggest the boy may have suffered a ruptured kidney. The Paraná State Secretariat of Education has suspended classes at the school and is providing psychosocial support to the community.
