Castro sports complex bidding process declared void
The public bidding process to complete the Cancha Rayada sports complex in Castro, Chile, has been declared void. The project, managed by the National Institute of Sports (IND) of Los Lagos, involved a budget of approximately 2.88 billion Chilean pesos funded by the Regional Development Fund.
The tender failed to result in any awarded offers. Potential bidders raised objections regarding the requirements set in the bidding documents, specifically concerning the requirement for proven capital to be equivalent to the total offered amount. While some companies requested a reduction of this requirement, the IND maintained that the terms could not be modified.
The project has faced long-standing difficulties. A previous contract awarded in 2019 was terminated early in 2021 due to serious breaches. Following a re-evaluation, the total project cost was updated to approximately 3.45 billion Chilean pesos.
