Castrop-Rauxel advances Emscher-Weg path paving project

The city of Castrop-Rauxel and the Emschergenossenschaft are working to asphalt four kilometers of the Emscher-Weg, a cycling and pedestrian path approximately 100 kilometers long that traverses the Ruhr region.

The project aims to make local recreational areas more accessible and weather-resistant. Currently, 1,642 meters of the path, including sections of the Emscher Promenade, have been completed. An additional 2,062 meters have received a base layer of black asphalt, which is currently serving as a construction road for the renaturation of the Emscher river. This section is expected to receive its final surface layer in autumn 2027 following the completion of the river restoration.

Mayor Rajko Kravanja recently inspected completed sections near Emscherstraße. Another short segment of 162 meters will be paved during the reconstruction of the Emscher bridge at Wartburgstraße.
