Castrop-Rauxeler animal refuge criticizes pet abandonment
Staff at the Refugium für Tiere in Not e. V. in Castrop-Rauxeler discovered a young British Shorthair cat abandoned in a grey-black bag at the facility's entrance on the morning of October 21.
A veterinarian determined the approximately 1.5-year-old cat was in poor physical condition, suffering from severe diarrhea and malnutrition. The animal was not microchipped. While it is not yet proven, medical assessments suggest the cat may have previously been used for breeding due to physical indicators.
The animal refuge expressed outrage over the incident, noting that such cases of abandonment are recurring. The organization criticized the casual attitude toward pet ownership, stating that animals are often acquired for their appearance but abandoned once they present challenges.
