Catalan cinema expands with new releases and independent producer insights

The Department of Linguistic Policy of the Generalitat de Catalunya announced the latest slate of films shown in Catalan, both dubbed and subtitled, across dozens of cinemas in the region, including venues in Barcelona, Lleida, Tarragona and other towns.

In a separate interview, Josep Pérez, founder of the independent production company Jopergon, discussed the evolution of Catalan audiovisual work. Pérez highlighted his focus on documentary projects, the growing competition among broadcasters, streaming platforms and festivals, and the financial fragility that forces many independent producers to combine personal films with corporate commissions.

Both pieces underscore the vibrant yet challenging landscape of Catalan-language film production and distribution.
