Catalan cities Olot and Girona highlight artistic and cinematic heritage

The Catalan cities of Olot and Girona are highlighting their unique connections to the arts, ranging from photography to international film production.

In Olot, the XVI Biennal Internacional Olot Fotografia features the RAW & ROCK exhibition. This collective showcase focuses on rock music and live performance photography, capturing the ephemeral light and movement of stage performances as a modern counterpart to the city’s traditional landscape painting heritage.

Girona has established itself as a premier filming location for major international productions. The city’s historic architecture, including the Barri Vell and the Santa Maria Cathedral, has served as various settings for high-profile projects such as ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘The Perfume’, and the live-action version of ‘Tangled’. The Girona Film Office notes that the city’s medieval character allows it to represent diverse fictional universes without the need for extensive sets.
