Catalan educational groups meet to plan future mobilizations
The educational community in Catalonia is preparing for a period of heightened tension as the Assemblea Educativa de Catalunya (AEC) meets in Hospitalet de l’Infant to determine the future of upcoming mobilizations. Following a strike on the first day of the school year, the AEC is seeking a concrete roadmap and calendar from the Department of Education to address unresolved demands from the previous academic year.
Simultaneously, the USTEC union is set to evaluate a “grand country agreement” proposed by President Salvador Illa. The union has expressed concerns that the proposed Council of Education of Catalonia might bypass collective bargaining and that the influence of subsidized schools could dilute agreements favoring public education.
Adding to the political pressure, President Salvador Illa is scheduled to appear before the Parliament to address the current educational situation and discuss PISA test results following recent controversies within the administration.
