Catalan farmers block C‑14 road over rabbit overpopulation, ZEPA reform
On Sunday, about thirty tractors and dozens of protestors blocked the C‑14 highway near Tàrrega, Catalonia, demanding a concrete plan to curb the overpopulation of wild rabbits and compensation for crop losses. The protest was organised by farmer groups including Asaja, Unió de Pagesos, the Catalan Peasants’ Union and the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives.
The demonstrators were awaiting a meeting convened by Catalonia’s Agriculture Minister Óscar Ordeig in Montblanc, also attended by Jaume Minguell, director‑general of Forests and Environment, and Jaume Feixa, director of territorial services. Asaja president Pere Roqué warned that if the meeting produced no firm measures, further roadblocks on the C‑12 near Maials were planned for the coming weekend. Police diverted traffic and no incidents were reported.
