Catalan government announces aid for agricultural sector crisis

The Generalitat de Catalunya's Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food has announced an extraordinary support plan for agricultural sectors facing price crises, drought, and climate phenomena. Minister Óscar Ordeig presented the initiative to provide liquidity to farms experiencing significant production or revenue declines, specifically targeting the wine and livestock sectors.

To fund these measures, the government will utilize contingency funds, own resources, and specific grants, including 5 million euros from the Nuclear Transition Fund for farm modernization. This follows previous mobilizations of 9 million euros for drought response, 3.6 million for green harvesting, and 5.4 million for crisis distillation. Additionally, authorities are intensifying inspections of the food supply chain after detecting 50 contractual relationships that may violate regulations, such as purchasing grapes below cost.

In the Camp de Morvedre region, meteorological damage has also impacted harvests. While the first half of the year saw 660 hectares affected—primarily by wind in January and February affecting citrus and avocado crops—the impact remains lower than in previous years when frost, rain, and hail caused more extensive damage.
