Catalan Government approves €3.09 bn irrigation plan and 2025 budget

The Catalan Government has adopted a long‑term irrigation strategy that will invest €3.09 billion up to 2040, modernising water networks across 181,000 hectares. The plan adds photovoltaic installations, digital water‑management systems and the use of regenerated water. A key element is the first‑time inclusion of the Conca de Barberà region, where a new community of irrigators will be created and a new irrigation system launched between 2033 and 2040, with about €135 million earmarked for the area.

In parallel, the regional Parliament is finalising the 2025‑2026 budget of the Illa administration, amounting to €49.162 billion. The budget includes funding for an orbital railway line, strengthening the Catalan Tax Agency, granting the Generalitat and Barcelona City a majority in the Barcelona Free‑Zone Consortium, and measures on tourist housing, ELA care and a new Catalan Centre for Business and Human Rights. The accounts will be voted on Thursday, concluding a prolonged negotiation process involving PSC, ERC, the Commons and other parties.
