Catalan healthcare consortia expand specialized physiotherapy services

Healthcare consortia in Catalonia are reporting significant activity and expansion in specialized physiotherapy and rehabilitation services.

The Consorci Sanitari Alt Penedès-Garraf (CSAPG) treated 10,478 people through its physiotherapy services in 2025. Utilizing 52 professionals, the organization conducted approximately 141,732 treatment sessions across various settings, including hospitals, residential centers, and home care. Notable activity included 6,291 sessions dedicated to stroke rehabilitation.

Similarly, the Consorci Sanitari de l’Anoia (CSA) has consolidated specialized rehabilitation programs at the Hospital Universitari d'Igualada. Over the last five years, the service has expanded to include cardiac respiratory physiotherapy, fecal incontinence management, and pre-operative training for joint replacements. Between 2021 and 2025, the CSA saw a nearly 10% increase in processes, rising from 4,862 to 5,338. In 2025, the service handled 2,558 inpatient processes and 2,224 outpatient rehabilitation processes, with outpatient activity exceeding the volume contracted by the Servei Català de la Salut by nearly 19%.
