Catalan heritage sites repurposed for tourism and gastronomy
In Catalonia, traditional rural structures are being repurposed to promote tourism and gastronomy. In the Les Garrigues region, projects are underway to transform historic 'cabanes de volta' into unique tourist accommodations and small-scale restaurants. One notable project is the Cabana del Perdiuet in Tarrés, which has received a favorable report from the municipal architect to operate as a reservation-only restaurant and singular lodging.
Similarly, in the Guilleries massif, historical sites like the Taverna Subirà continue to preserve local heritage. Located in a 14th-century feudal house, the restaurant serves traditional cuisine using local products and wild herbs, attracting hikers and cyclists. These initiatives reflect a broader trend of using Catalan tourism regulations to rehabilitate traditional buildings while maintaining their historical and patrimonial value.
