Catalan human tower groups introduce new safety gear

The Coordinadora de Colles Castelleres de Catalunya (CCCC) has introduced new safety equipment designed specifically for children participating in human tower (castells) activities. Developed over two years in collaboration with the manufacturer NZI and Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, the new gear includes an updated casteller helmet and a complementary facial protector. The design was optimized using 3D printing technology to ensure better sizing and protection.

Twelve local groups will test these prototypes simultaneously on September 24 during the La Mercè festivities in Barcelona and Tarragona, ahead of a wider distribution planned for the coming months. The project received support from the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Barcelona, and CaixaBank.

In related news, the Els Castellers de Mollet group is preparing for the Concurs de Castells de Torredembarra on September 27. Following their ranking in the Estrella Concurs, the group aims to perform specific structures, including the 3de7 and 5de7, during the competition.
