Catalan independence groups organize September 11 mobilizations

Catalan pro-independence organizations are organizing major mobilizations for the upcoming September 11 Diada. The Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC), supported by Òmnium Cultural and the Association of Municipalities for Independence (AMI), has called for a demonstration under the slogan ‘Hi soc. Hi som. Independència’. The event aims to link current social struggles—including issues in healthcare, education, housing, and transport—to the pursuit of sovereignty.

The mobilization in Barcelona will feature two columns, ‘Present’ and ‘Futur’, which will converge at Plaça de Catalunya to symbolize the connection between current civic struggles and the vision of a future independent state.

Additionally, 2026 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Freedom March (Marxa de la Llibertat), a peaceful 1976 mobilization for amnesty and autonomy. Commemorative acts include a roundtable discussion in Montblanc, an exhibition curated by historian Josep Calvet, and a commemorative march from Espluga de Francolí to the Poblet Monastery to honor the legacy of democratic freedoms and the Catalan language.
