Catalan Interior Ministry to provide details on Tarragona gunman police intervention

Catalan Interior Minister Núria Parlon stated that her department will provide “important nuances” regarding a court ruling in Reus concerning the 2021 neutralization of the ‘Tarragona gunman.’

The ruling addressed the actions of the Mossos d'Esquadra's Special Intervention Group (GEI) during the operation in Riudoms. While Parlon emphasized that the government respects judicial decisions, she noted that the department may not entirely agree with them. She indicated that the Interior Ministry will provide information to help clarify the perspective on the GEI's intervention, which the court suggested may have been “uncontrolled, disproportionate, and with a purpose that could have gone far beyond neutralization.”

The incident occurred in December 2021 after a man wounded three former colleagues at a Securitas office and injured a police officer during his escape before being neutralized by the GEI.
