Catalan language content grows on streaming platforms
The presence of the Catalan language on audiovisual streaming platforms has seen a significant increase, with catalogs growing by 77% over the last four years. According to the Department of Linguistic Policy, major platforms such as Netflix and Disney+ are incorporating a substantial number of titles in the language.
This growth is supported by agreements between the Department of Linguistic Policy and 3Cat, which allow dubbing produced by the Catalan public television corporation to be distributed on global platforms. Other services, including HBO Max and Filmin, have also seen recent additions.
In addition to these distribution agreements, the government has implemented measures such as subsidy lines for the dubbing and subtitling of feature films and series, as well as a partnership with Movistar+ to facilitate subtitling for new releases. A report by the Audiovisual Council of Catalonia noted that major OTT services offered varying levels of Catalan content, ranging from 2.2% to 20.7% of works.
