Catalan literature translations reach record high in 2025

Catalan language book translations reached a record high in 2025, with 385 works translated into other languages. This figure surpasses the previous 21st-century peak of 369 translations recorded in 2024.

According to data from the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), Spanish editions account for one-third of the total, while there has also been a record number of translations into other languages. Izaskun Arretxe, director of the IRL Literature Area, noted a sustained growth in the sector and suggested that the market has not yet reached its ceiling.

A significant driver of this growth is children's and young adult literature, which now represents nearly half of all translations. Authors such as Irene Solà and Maria Àngels Anglada are among the ten most translated Catalan writers. To support the industry, the IRL participates in 13 international literary fairs annually and provides subsidies for translation and promotion to foreign publishers.
