Catalan podcast sector shows decade of growth and stabilization

The first Catalan Podcast Yearbook, published by Espai Sonor in coordination with Àudio.cat, reveals a decade of significant expansion and recent stabilization in the sector. Data covering 2016 to 2025 shows that active podcasts grew from 26 in 2016 to a peak of 479 in 2024.

While 2024 marked a record with 8,906 annual episodes, 2025 has seen a slight contraction in activity, with 422 active podcasts and 8,020 published episodes. Despite this recent dip, production levels remain far higher than at the start of the decade. On average, approximately 20 new episodes are uploaded to the network every day.

The report identifies the dominant trend as social or cultural content, typically released on Wednesdays or Thursdays via platforms like Spotify. Current challenges for the industry include economic sustainability, community building, content quality, and the impact of artificial intelligence.
