Catalan radical left groups mobilize for Diada to counter Aliança Catalana

Radical left-wing independence groups in Catalonia have announced a series of mobilizations for the upcoming Diada on September 11. Organizations including the CUP, the COS union, and youth collectives such as SEPC and Arran are organizing acts in Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Reus.

The primary objective of these groups is to contest the influence of Aliança Catalana, a right-wing nationalist formation. CUP Secretary General Non Casadevall stated that the movement aims to prevent the far-right from “appropriating Catalan identity” and using it as a tool for division. The radical left seeks to frame the national conflict through the lens of class struggle, promoting a vision of Catalonia that is described as popular, anti-racist, and feminist.

Scheduled events include a tribute to Gustau Muñoz in Barcelona and various gatherings across regional cities. Proponents of these mobilizations argue that the struggle for independence must remain connected to current social and class-based issues rather than being a matter of mere nostalgia.
