Catalan railway services face delays and long-term disruptions
Railway services in Catalonia are facing significant disruptions due to infrastructure damage and operational constraints. On the R11 line, an incident near Girona has forced trains to operate on a single track between Girona and Flaçà, causing delays exceeding 30 minutes and potential stops for passengers.
Separately, the full restoration of service on the R-13 and R-14 lines between La Plana-Picamoixons and Les Borges Blanques may be delayed until February. This follows a copper cable theft that triggered a fire, damaging four critical safety interlocking installations. Because these systems are compromised, authorities must currently rely on manual telephone-based safety checks, which has restricted the lines primarily to freight trains. Cable theft remains a persistent issue in the region, with 152 incidents recorded in the Rodalies and Regional networks through July, nearly matching the total for the previous year.
