Catalan sports events promote regional language and athletic visibility

Catalan sporting entities and regional authorities are holding events to promote the use of the Catalan language and visibility for regional sports selections.

In Sant Cugat, ten local sports clubs were recognized during the first Festa de l'Esport en Català. This initiative, supported by Òmnium Sant Cugat and the local City Council, honors clubs committed to the 'Juga en català' campaign, which aims to normalize the use of the language among athletes and social bases. Participants received commemorative posters designed by students from the Escola d'Art i Disseny de Sant Cugat.

Meanwhile, the VI Setmana Catalana de l’Esport held its central event in Cerdanyola del Vallès during the GoldenCat international roller hockey tournament. The event, which features 4,000 athletes from 35 federations and representatives from over 60 countries, serves to project Catalan sports selections internationally. The ceremony included performances by the Castellers de Cerdanyola del Vallès and was attended by the Catalan Minister of Sports, Berni Álvarez, and officials from the Unió de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya (UFEC).
