Catalina Project receives approval for green hydrogen pipeline to Caspe

The Catalina Project in Andorra is advancing its administrative processes following environmental approval for a 39-kilometer pipeline. The infrastructure, approved by the Aragonese Institute of Environmental Management (Inaga), will transport green hydrogen from Andorra to Caspe, connecting the project to the main hydrogen network.

The project involves an investment exceeding 2.1 billion euros. Promoted by the Danish fund CIP, the initiative includes a hydrogen production plant, seven wind farms, six photovoltaic plants, and a 500 MW electrolyzer. The goal is to produce 84,000 tons of renewable green hydrogen annually.

While the environmental authorization was granted, the project faced scrutiny from local associations regarding potential impacts on biodiversity, bird habitats, and road networks. The developers maintained that the underground infrastructure is technically and environmentally viable, noting that impacts would be primarily concentrated during the construction phase.
