Catalonia education strikes planned for November
Educational unions and student organizations in Catalonia have announced a series of mobilizations to protest working conditions and the perceived deterioration of public education.
On November 11, the Sindicat d'Estudiants dels Països Catalans (SEPC) has called for a student strike to join a broader general strike. The SEPC cites issues such as the underfunding of education, excessive bureaucracy, increasing class sizes, and the centralization of study centers in major capitals as primary grievances. They also highlighted the impact of high housing costs and poor public transport on student access.
A specific one-day strike for teachers and school staff is scheduled for November 26. This action is supported by several unions, including Ustec-STEs, CGT, La Intersindical, COS, and CNT, as well as the Assemblea Educativa de Catalunya. The strike aims to address labor conditions and the professional reclassification of staff. Additionally, a demonstration for public education involving families and students is planned for November 21.
