Catalonia faces surge in simultaneous summer forest fires
Catalonia has experienced a significant increase in simultaneous forest fires this summer. Data released through August 16 indicates that on one out of every three days, more than five forest fires were declared daily, a frequency not seen since at least 2011.
On approximately 26% of days this summer, seven or more fires were reported. This high level of simultaneity has forced firefighters to strategically distribute resources, often diverting personnel from large, established fires to prevent smaller blazes from escalating into major incidents.
