Catalonia sees protests from firefighters, anti-fascists, and Vox leader Santiago Abascal
In Catalonia, several distinct social and political events have occurred. Vox leader Santiago Abascal faced an attempted assault in Tarragona when an individual spat at and tried to strike him; the man was detained by Mossos d'Esquadra. In Barcelona, hundreds of anti-fascist protesters demonstrated against a Vox event, leading to a heavy police presence to separate activists from party members.
In a separate mobilization, firefighters in Barcelona protested for improved working conditions. They demanded better management of toxic contaminants, increased training, more resources, and the recovery of purchasing power. Volunteer firefighters also highlighted a lack of labor rights and safety protections.
Additionally, in Ceuta, the 'Foro Ciudadano de Ayuda a Ceuta' held a demonstration and maintained a protest camp to demand government action regarding the large influx of migrants and its impact on local security, education, and public services.
