Spain weather crisis: Fatal floods in Catalonia and red alerts in Extremadura

Severe weather across the Iberian Peninsula has caused significant disruption, most notably in Catalonia and Extremadura. In Catalonia, torrential rains have resulted in two deaths and one missing person, with emergency services responding to over 1,200 incidents. The Catalan government has announced an extraordinary aid package of 75 million euros to support affected municipalities and businesses. Additionally, over 10,000 customers in the region experienced power outages.

In Extremadura, particularly in the province of Badajoz, a red alert for heavy rainfall led to hundreds of emergency calls and numerous road closures due to flooding and landslides. Meanwhile, other regions including Asturias, Madrid, Andalusia, and Valencia remain under various weather warnings for continued storms and heavy precipitation.

In Argentina, weather patterns are shifting toward more stable conditions in central provinces like Buenos Aires and Córdoba, following recent instability and fog in the Pampean region.
