Catalonia marks Casa Aymat centenary while showcasing 150 years of architecture

Catalan Culture Minister Sònia Hernández visited the Galeria Canals to commemorate the centenary of the Casa Aymat, praising its role in the development of contemporary Catalan art and textile design. She highlighted the contributions of living figures such as Joan Aymerich, Josep Royo, Toni Busquets and Carles Delclaux, and announced that 2027 will feature programmes dedicated to sculptors Josep Subirachs and Josep Guinovart, whose designs were woven at the historic house.

At the same time, the Design Hub Barcelona opened the exhibition “Seny i rauxa. Notícia de l'arquitectura catalana,” curated by architect Joan Roig with Victòria Garriga and Carme Ribas. The show surveys the last 150 years of Catalan architecture through sketches, plans, models, furniture and artworks, including rare pieces such as an original drawing of Gaudí’s Casa Batlló and the Cerdà plan for the Eixample. Visitors are invited to explore how the Catalan traits of prudence and passion have shaped the region’s built environment.
