Catalonia police arrest suspect after GPS tracks stolen rental car
A 35-year-old man was apprehended in Catalonia after attempting to hide the theft of a rental car by replacing its license plates. Although the suspect used plates from another stolen vehicle to disguise the car, he failed to deactivate the vehicle's built-in GPS tracking system.
Following the disappearance of the rental vehicle, the rental company monitored the car's location remotely and shared the data with the Mossos d'Esquadra. On August 10, the geolocation data led police to the Balmes Street area in Palamós. Upon arrival, investigators located a vehicle matching the description, which was found to be using fraudulent plates. The investigation suggests the suspect may be linked to multiple vehicle thefts.
