Mallorca restaurant shut down over labor exploitation and health violations

Police from the National Police, Immigration Service, Labour and Social Security Inspectors, and regional health and housing authorities ordered the temporary closure of a restaurant in Cala Millor, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar (Mallorca). The operation uncovered the exploitation of 15 workers, including three undocumented migrants, who were forced to work 13‑hour days, seven days a week, without rest. Inspectors also recorded serious hygiene breaches: inadequate refrigeration, improper food handling, and a lack of basic cleaning. Living conditions were deemed substandard, with nine overcrowded rooms lacking private bathrooms, ventilation and sanitation. The authorities imposed closure pending remedial work within ten days and issued administrative sanctions. Immigration officials have also opened expulsion proceedings against the illegal workers.
