Catalonia railway works see major station investments
Major railway infrastructure works are underway across Catalonia as part of the Rodalies 2020-2030 plan. Adif is currently constructing six new stations and modernizing four others, including a €10 million project for the new Reus Bellissens station. Other significant investments include €150 million for the expansion of Barcelona Sants and €22.8 million for a new station in Sant Feliu de Llobregat.
While the investment plan has seen its budget increase from €6.3 billion to over €8 billion, the Catalan Government (Govern) aims to eventually manage all 200 stations in the network through the new company, Rodalies de Catalunya. Currently, ownership of the 200 stations is split between Adif (94) and Renfe (106). Despite these ongoing improvements to tracks, catenaries, and facilities, the Rodalies service remains among the lowest-rated modes of transport by Catalan commuters.
