Catalonia reports three traffic fatalities during Diada holiday

Three people died in separate traffic accidents in Catalonia during the Diada holiday travel period. The fatalities include two motorcyclists and a 27-year-old female driver.

The first accident occurred Thursday night on the N-340 highway near Altafulla, Tarragona, involving three vehicles. The female driver died, and four others were injured.

Two additional fatal accidents occurred on Friday within ten minutes of each other. On the N-260 in Ribera d’Urgellet, a motorcyclist died following a head-on collision with a car. Shortly after, on the C-59 in Caldes de Montbui, another motorcyclist was killed in a collision involving a car and a motorcycle.

Authorities report that over 540,000 vehicles departed from Barcelona and its metropolitan area between Thursday night and Friday noon. The Catalan Transit Service noted that these incidents bring the total number of road fatalities in Catalonia for 2026 to 93.
