Catalonia sees highest net loss of company headquarters in Spain

Corporate headquarters relocations within Spain increased by 3% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. According to data from Informa D&B, a total of 1,463 companies moved their registered offices to different autonomous communities during the second quarter, marking the highest level of movement since the first quarter of 2024.

Catalonia recorded the highest negative balance of company arrivals and departures in Spain. In the first half of 2026, the region saw 506 departures against 363 arrivals, resulting in a net loss of 143 companies. This exceeds the total net loss recorded by Catalonia throughout the entirety of 2025. Since 2017, the region has lost over 10,300 headquarters, with only 821 returning.

In contrast, Madrid saw a net gain of 60 companies during the same six-month period. Other regions experiencing negative balances include Castilla y León and Navarra. Nationally, 2,816 companies changed their registered offices during the first half of the year, a figure nearly identical to the 2,817 recorded during the same period last year.
