Catalonia to Deploy Nursing and Care Technicians in Half of Schools
The Generalitat de Catalunya will place qualified nurses and auxiliary care technicians (TCAI) in about 50% of Catalan schools starting the 2026‑27 academic year. The rollout follows a successful pilot in the Regió Sanitària Metropolitana Nord, which covered 57 schools in the municipalities of Granollers, Cardedeu, la Garriga and Ametlla del Vallès and attended 204 cases of students with special health needs.
The initiative, part of the Health‑Education Framework Agreement signed in June 2025, aims to provide on‑site care for invasive procedures such as insulin injections and to manage emergencies like epileptic seizures. The government plans to complete full coverage across the region by the 2027‑28 school year, improving family confidence, easing pressure on teaching staff and promoting a more inclusive education system.
