Catalonia unveils sign language strategy and eclipse outreach for disabled

The Catalan Government has approved a comprehensive strategy for Catalan sign language (LSC) covering 2026‑2028, with an initial budget of €2,014,585. The plan involves twelve executive departments, seven strategic axes, and 45 concrete actions aimed at improving accessibility, education and certification. Key measures include video‑conferencing support for LSC in the 112 emergency service, a new interpreter programme for secondary‑school and vocational students, expansion of bilingual education, and a decree to certify LSC knowledge.

In parallel, the Generalitat launched the "Eclipse for all" campaign to make the total solar eclipse of 12 August accessible to vulnerable groups. The initiative, presented at the Mas Piteu residential centre in Barcelona, was attended by the Councilor of Research and Universities Núria Montserrat and the Councilor of Social Rights and Inclusion Raúl Moreno. Adapted workshops, tools and explanatory sessions will be delivered to care homes, social‑inclusion facilities, schools and other community centres, ensuring that people with disabilities and older citizens can safely experience the event.
