Catalonia Wildfires Prompt Red Cross to Deploy Hundreds of Volunteers

The Spanish Red Cross activated roughly a hundred volunteers and about thirty vehicles to address multiple wildfires across Catalonia. Response teams were dispatched to Capellades (Anoia), Sentmenat and the Bisbal d’Empordà area, while a pre‑emptive standby was maintained at Artesa de Segre. In the Bisbal d’Empordà fire, sixty volunteers and technical staff were mobilised. Emergency shelters in Calonge, Santa Cristina d’Aro and other facilities accommodated 361 people, managing 76 overnight stays. The command centre, located in the Bisbal d’Empordà sports pavilion, coordinated logistical support for field personnel.
