Catamarca, Argentina and Mexican states issue severe weather alerts

Civil protection authorities in the western departments of Catamarca Province, Argentina, have issued a yellow alert for Zonda winds. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional forecasts wind speeds of 30‑45 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h, reducing visibility in mountainous and rural areas. Residents are warned to avoid outdoor activities, secure loose objects, travel with caution, and keep an emergency kit with a flashlight, radio, documents and a charged phone. Emergency numbers (911, 103, 100, 107) have been reiterated.

In Mexico, the Coordinación Nacional de Protección Civil (CNPC) has called for heightened precautions amid a forecast of persistent heavy rains that raise the risk of floods, water‑logged areas and landslides across numerous states. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional predicts very strong rainfalls ranging from 25 mm to 150 mm in regions including Sonora, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Durango, Baja California Sur, Zacatecas, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, the State of Mexico and many others. Authorities urge the public to avoid crossing streams, stay clear of inundated zones, and be prepared to evacuate to safe areas if signs of landslide risk appear. Emergency preparedness kits similar to those recommended in Argentina are also advised.
