Catamarca authorities detain man for suspected homicide of Maira Cabrera

Authorities in Catamarca, Argentina, have detained Eduardo del Jesús Cejas, the former partner of 27-year-old Maira Romina Cabrera, in connection with her disappearance on August 10. Cejas has been formally charged with simple threats and qualified homicide involving a domestic relationship.

The prosecution's hypothesis suggests that Cejas threatened Cabrera during an argument on August 7. Investigators believe he subsequently killed her on the night of August 10 in the town of Telaritos and moved her body to an undisclosed location. While search teams have yet to find her remains, forensic evidence, search reports, and analysis of electronic devices have supported the prosecution's theory and undermined the suspect's alibi.

During his interrogation, Cejas declined to testify. The case has sparked public outcry and criticism from human rights organizations regarding the response of local security and gender-related government agencies.
