Catamarca to unify 2027 local and national elections

Catamarca Governor Raúl Jalil has confirmed that the province will unify its 2027 local elections with the national electoral calendar. This decision marks Catamarca as the only Argentine district to opt against separating provincial and national voting cycles.

Jalil stated that the move aims to reduce electoral costs, allowing the province to redirect funds toward essential infrastructure such as housing, roads, schools, and hospitals. The decision also provides greater predictability for political parties.

The move aligns with the cost-reduction strategies promoted by President Javier Milei’s administration. This synchronization highlights a strengthening relationship between the Catamarca administration and the national government, evidenced by recent fund transfers and legislative support for La Libertad Avanza projects.

In a separate political development, Fernando Jalil, the governor's brother, has formalized his political group, ‘Encuentro Catamarca,’ as a provincial district, signaling increased competition for the 2027 succession.
