Catamarca launches loom weaving diploma to boost artisanal production

The Municipality of the Capital and the National University of Catamarca (UNCA) have launched the fourth cohort of the “Urdiendo Futuro” university diploma in loom weaving. Based at the Casa de la Puna, the program aims to preserve traditional textile knowledge by bridging academic instruction with ancestral skills.

The initiative focuses on four key pillars: improving the competitiveness of artisanal textile production, fostering associativity among workers, enhancing commercialization, and integrating these crafts into the local tourism sector. By providing continuous training, officials hope to increase the quality of garments and create economic opportunities for local artisans and entrepreneurs.

The course is designed for textile artisans, interested youth, and those connected to the craft. It will consist of nine modules combining theory and practice, with classes held once a month on Saturdays to accommodate participants.
