Argentina's provinces adjust school operations amid cold wave, tech rollout and World Cup match

In Catamarca, the teachers' union SIDCA asked the provincial government and the national Ministry of Education to suspend in‑person classes for a week because of an extreme cold wave, insufficient heating in schools and a rise in respiratory illnesses. The union proposed virtual lessons to protect students, staff and directors, while noting that the final decision rests with authorities.

In Mendoza, the provincial Directorate of Schools highlighted the expansion of classroom technology, including a streaming program on financial education and the promotion of cell‑phone use for learning. The agency also announced that during the winter break it will carry out maintenance work on school infrastructure, such as roof repairs and sports‑field renovations.

The provincial Ministry of Education confirmed that regular classes will continue on 3 July 2026, the day of Argentina’s World Cup round‑of‑16 match against Cape Verde. Because the match is scheduled for the evening, it does not interfere with morning and afternoon lessons. Higher‑education and adult‑learning institutions have flexibility to adjust schedules if needed.
