Argentina ramps up security and traffic controls for World Cup final
Ahead of the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, cities across Argentina are deploying extensive security and public‑order measures. In Concordia, Entre Ríos, police and municipal authorities will enforce road closures on the Costanera and downtown streets and keep Plaza 25 de Mayo closed, directing fans to a pedestrian‑only viewing zone at the Campo de Deportes.
Mendoza province will mobilize nearly 3,000 police officers, with about 1,500 stationed in Greater Mendoza to protect key gathering points such as Kilómetro Cero and Arístides Villanueva. La Plata will activate a 350‑person operation, including 110 police, 12 motorcycles, drones and mobile monitoring units, while restricting vehicle access around the 7‑50 intersection.
San Luis has temporarily banned the sale of alcoholic beverages in its micro‑centre from 20:00 Saturday until the celebrations end, aiming to prevent disorder and accidents. Other municipalities, such as Necochea and Concepción del Uruguay, are imposing traffic restrictions, prohibiting glass containers and other prohibited items, and setting up permanent video surveillance to ensure rapid response to any incidents.
These coordinated actions target crowd management, prevention of violence, and the safe flow of traffic, reflecting the authorities' effort to guarantee a peaceful and orderly environment for the expected large‑scale public festivities.
