Catamarca's Poncho Festival Showcases Folk Music, Art and Culinary Delights
The 55th Fiesta Nacional e Internacional del Poncho in Catamarca, Argentina, runs through July 26, offering a broad program of folk and rock performances, dance shows and a sound‑walk called "Catamarca Retumba" that brings copleros together for communal singing. Highlights include folk acts such as Juan Fuentes and Orellana Lucca on the Patio stage, followed by local rock bands on the Mercado Cultural stage.
A parallel Artisan Exhibition honors the Pachamama, displaying works made from reclaimed wood, natural dyes, clay and native fibers. Artisans from Jujuy, Corrientes, Misiones and Entre Ríos present clay figures, naturally‑dyed ruanas, wooden sculptures and woven hammocks, emphasizing sustainable techniques and regional cultural motifs.
Food and beverage stalls line the central promenade, offering specialty coffee, artisanal pastries, gluten‑free and keto options, as well as traditional sweets, ice‑cream and regional dishes. The culinary zone showcases a mix of modern bakeries and classic vendors, providing visitors with diverse tasting experiences while they explore the festival.
