Catania Airport manager SAC privatization process delayed, no immediate decisions
The Free Municipal Consortium of Siracusa is overseeing the privatization procedure of SAC, the operator of Catania airport. It has requested documentation and technical analyses to ensure transparency. The first phase requires private parties to submit expressions of interest by 15 June, after which public shareholders will draft governance guidelines for the future company structure. The consortium’s president, Michelangelo Giansiracusa, stressed that no decision on selling the public shareholdings will be taken in the coming weeks; such a choice is expected only around October following thorough assessments.
An assembly of shareholders met on 9 June, approving an extension for further study, and a second meeting is scheduled for 16 June to continue work on the governance framework. The council has also engaged professor Pierpaolo Sanfilippo to provide technical‑scientific support for the economic, legal and strategic analysis of the transaction, emphasizing a cautious and transparent approach for the benefit of the province.
