Catania authorities launch TESEO AI system to combat cyber fraud
The Catania District Prosecutor's Office and the State Police have signed an operational protocol to combat cyber fraud through the implementation of artificial intelligence. The initiative, named “TESEO”, is considered one of Italy's most innovative projects for addressing the growing threat of digital fraud against businesses, public administrations, and citizens.
Developed by specialists from the Catania Postal Police, the TESEO system functions as an integrated investigative tool rather than a replacement for human analysis. It utilizes an automated archive of data extracted from district complaints and a dedicated documentary platform hosted at the Catania Cyber Security Operations Center.
The AI model identifies recurring elements across different proceedings, such as matching IBANs, phone numbers, email addresses, internet domains, and payment accounts. This allows the system to generate analytical reports that highlight potential investigative convergences. Final verification and evaluation of the data remain the responsibility of investigators, who then present findings to inquiring magistrates for further action.
