Catania beach cleanup collects over 1,000 kg of waste

The sixth edition of ‘Blue Day,’ an environmental volunteer initiative, resulted in the collection of 1,043 kilograms of waste from the Plaia beach in Catania. Organized by Sibeg Coca-Cola in collaboration with the national association Marevivo, the event involved more than 100 company employees.

Participants collected and sorted various materials, including plastic, glass, aluminum, and paper. Beyond the physical cleanup, Marevivo environmental educators provided training on recycling, the circular economy, and the risks associated with marine waste dispersion.

Local officials and company leadership noted that while the volume of waste collected is significant, the initiative serves as a vital tool for environmental awareness and community engagement regarding coastal preservation.
