Italy reports balcony collapse in Naples and fatal highway crash

Two separate tragic incidents have occurred in Italy.

In Santa Maria la Carità, near Naples, a balcony collapsed at an uninhabited residence undergoing renovation. Four members of the same family were injured when the structure gave way while they were inspecting the progress of the works. The victims include a 67-year-old man, his 38-year-old daughter, his 27-year-old son, and the son's 23-year-old partner. The two younger individuals were hospitalized in serious condition, while the older two were treated in Castellammare di Stabia. Authorities are investigating the cause of the structural failure.

In a separate incident on the Perugia-Bettolle highway near Passignano, a head-on collision between a car and a truck resulted in the deaths of two young people from the Marche region, aged 20 and 21/22. The accident occurred in a section of the road where traffic was being managed in two directions on a single lane due to ongoing construction. Emergency responders used heavy equipment to extract the victims from the wreckage. The truck driver sustained non-serious injuries. Police are investigating the exact dynamics of the crash.
