Sicily police bust fraud schemes targeting elderly

The Carabinieri arrested multiple suspects in two separate fraud operations that targeted vulnerable senior citizens in Sicily. In San Teodoro, a 32‑year‑old was caught in flagrante delicto after posing as a Carabiniere and orchestrating a fake road‑accident scenario to extract money and jewellery from a 95‑year‑old woman. He was placed under house arrest, while a 23‑year‑old accomplice remains under investigation.

In Rosolini, a 75‑year‑old father and his 36‑year‑old son were apprehended after telephone calls impersonating finance officials led a 79‑year‑old victim to hand over about €550 in cash and several gold items. The stolen items were recovered and returned to the victim. Both investigations were carried out by local Carabinieri stations, emphasizing ongoing efforts to combat scams aimed at the elderly.
