Catania highway heroin bust seizes 2.3 kg of narcotics

Guardia di Finanza agents stopped a vehicle at the Catania‑San San Gregorio toll. The driver, a 55‑year‑old man from Gela, appeared nervous, prompting a deeper inspection. Investigators discovered a concealed compartment in the rear bumper that held four packets of heroin, totaling about 2.3 kg. The quantity corresponds to roughly 20‑25 000 doses and could have generated illicit proceeds of €400‑500 k if sold. The suspect was arrested on charges of possession and transport of narcotics. The seizure and arrest were later validated by the Catania tribunal at the request of the public prosecutor, and the man was transferred to the prison of Piazza Lanza. Multiple reports confirm the same operation, underscoring a coordinated effort to disrupt drug trafficking on a major highway in Sicily.
