Catania cycling path faces safety criticism from Free Green Sicilia

In Catania, the Free Green Sicilia association has raised safety concerns regarding the new two-kilometer cycling and pedestrian path on via Cristoforo Colombo. Opened in January 2025, the route connects via Dusmet to the Biscari lighthouse.

Alfio Lisi, spokesperson for Free Green Sicilia, criticized the infrastructure for failing to provide adequate separation between pedestrians and cyclists, forcing them to share the same space. The association also highlighted risks associated with accessing the path from heavily trafficked roads, potential visibility issues at crossings, and the safety of metal railings installed on raised sections. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the placement of young trees along the route, which may cause future interference with the path.
