Catania fans banned from stadiums for smuggling smoke bombs

Two football fans in Catania have been banned from all sporting events across Italy after attempting to smuggle smoke bombs into the Angelo Massimino stadium.

During a Serie C match between Catania and Crotone on October 3, a 21-year-old man attempted to bypass security at the Curva Sud sector by hiding a smoke bomb in his underwear. Police officers from the X Reparto Mobile discovered the pyrotechnic during pre-filtering checks.

A second incident involved a 27-year-old man who tried to hide a smoke bomb in his clothing to enter the Curva Nord during a Coppa Italia match between Catania and Savoia.

In both cases, the individuals were reported to the judicial authorities by the Digos of the Catania police headquarters. Both men have been issued a DASPO (divieto di accedere alle manifestazioni sportive), a preventive measure that prohibits them from entering any stadium or participating in any sporting events nationwide for one year.
